Chute, support, liner, seal, air — a load zone seals as a system or leaks as one. Here’s the system.
Material on the ground at a transfer point is the end of a chain of small failures: the chute put the load in the wrong place, the belt sagged and opened a gap, the skirting stopped sealing, the dust found the opening. Sweeping it up treats the symptom. The transfer point is a system — chute, belt support, wear liner, skirting, sealing — and it seals as a system or it leaks as one.

Usually because it's doing the wear liner's job. If material bears directly on the rubber, it's being sanded on every ton. Fit or replace the liner so the rubber only has to seal the last fraction of an inch.
It's common and it's a false economy. Belt covers are compounded to resist wear, so instead of conforming to seal, the strip holds its shape, wears the belt beneath it, and still leaks. Purpose-made skirting rubber seals at lower pressure and grooves nothing.
Rule of thumb: if lump size and drop height make you wince, it's a bed. Beds give continuous sealing support and absorb impact that would hammer idler bearings. For light, fine material at low drop heights, tighter idler spacing can be enough.
Falling material drags air with it, and that air must exit. If you didn't design its exit, it makes one — carrying dust. The fix is airflow: settling zones, curtains, and where needed suppression or extraction. Rubber alone can't seal against air pressure.
That's the normal way we do it — scoped in advance, hardware staged, and executed in a planned window. A standard zone rebuild is a between-shifts job, not a shutdown project.
