The Stockpile · Pile 02 — The Parts
Ten families of vibrators — sized to the wall, placed where they work.
Ten families of vibrators from Cougar, Italvibras, Oli and more: screen vibrators, truck vibrators, electric, hydraulic, piston, roller, turbine, ball, portable pneumatic and railcar vibrators. When your material needs to flow — and keep flowing — the right vibrator in the right place does quiet, reliable work for years.
Channel-and-stiffener mounting spreads the force and saves the vessel wall. If a vibrator cracked your hopper once, the mount — not the vibrator — was usually the culprit.
| Type | Character | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Rotary electric | Continuous, tunable force, quiet-ish | Screens, feeders, dense long-duty flow help on bins |
| Pneumatic ball / roller | Simple, cheap, runs anywhere with air | Hoppers and chutes needing regular shaking |
| Pneumatic piston | Directional thump, single or repeated | Knocking wall cling loose; railcar and hopper duty |
| Turbine | High frequency, lower noise | Noise-sensitive plants, finer materials |
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Vibrator runs, material sits | Fine cohesive powder compacting — the classic trap | Stop vibrating; this is cannon territory (see the comparison) |
| Cracked welds at the mount | Mount plate too light, or channel missing | Reinforced mount to manufacturer spec — not just a thicker weld |
| Pneumatic unit slowing down | Wet or dirty air supply | Filter-lubricator upstream; drain the drops |
| Electric unit tripping | Force setting too high for the structure, or bearing end-of-life | Check eccentric settings and current draw |
| Noise complaints | Ball type on thin steel = bell | Turbine or piston swap; isolate the mount |
Pneumatic units are simple, robust and safe for wet or dusty spots with plant air handy; electric units shine on screens, feeders and continuous duty. Application picks the family — send us the vessel and material.
Correctly sized and mounted, no. Damage comes from oversizing and bad mounts. Sizing help is free — use it.
Vibrators keep free-flowing material moving; cannons break cohesive buildup and bridges, especially high on the vessel or in hot service. Many plants run both.
Reading about it is free. So is the phone call. Some answers only come from climbing into the equipment — that’s the part we do in person. Tell us the plant, the part and the problem, and you’ll get a real person.
