The joint the whole conveyor depends on

A conveyor belt is a loop, and the splice is where it closes. Done right, a vulcanized splice is as strong as the belt itself and smooth enough that cleaners and skirting never notice it. Done wrong, it is the first thing to fail — usually at the worst time. Splicing is precision work: ply-line accuracy, clean bias cuts, correct cure temperature, time and pressure.

The three ways we close a belt

  • Hot vulcanized splice — controlled heat and pressure cure. Strongest, smoothest, best for high-tension and long-life belts. 18–60″ press capability.
  • Cold-bond vulcanization — chemical cure without the press. Useful where a press cannot go.
  • Mechanical fasteners — fastest return to service. Full line stocked, including Superscrew®, bolt plates, Titan and Clipper staples. Finger splicing available for light-weight belting.

Included with every splice

Belt removal and install, removal of idlers or other equipment required to splice, the splice itself, and tracking of the belt. Extensive tracking is assessed during bidding — never a surprise on the invoice.

Why splices fail

Nearly always preparation: plies cut unevenly, contamination in the joint, wrong cure temperature, or a splice cut out of square that steers the belt forever after. If your splices keep failing, the answer is not more splices — it is a better splicer.

Splice warning signs worth a call

  • Cover lifting or bubbling at the splice line — adhesion letting go underneath. Vulcanized splices fail from the inside out.
  • Fasteners shiny, thinned or lifting — wear has a schedule; broken-out fasteners mean it’s past it.
  • The belt wanders on a rhythm — a crooked splice announces itself every revolution.
  • A splice younger than the last one died — shortening splice life means heat, tension or material changed. Find out which.

Booking a splice: what we need

  • Belt spec — width, ply/rating (PIW if known), top and bottom cover
  • Splice count and outage window — one belt or a shutdown list
  • Workspace — room for the press at the splice point, weather cover, power
  • Material and temperature — hot or oily service changes the recipe

Frequently asked questions

How long does a vulcanized splice take?

Plan on several hours of controlled work — setup, preparation, cure and cool-down. A mechanical splice has you running in a fraction of the time; that trade-off is exactly how we help you choose.

Can you splice in place, on the structure?

Usually yes. The press comes to the conveyor. Where access is impossible we discuss options during the proposal — not after the crew arrives.

What is the Superscrew®?

A screwed fastener from Minet Lacing Technology — the only mechanical fastener as strong as a vulcanized splice. Installed with ordinary tools, no press. We stock it.
