CONVEYOR BELT SPLICING

Conveyor belt systems are at the heart of the material handling industry. Mines, construction sites, manufacturing facilities, and many more businesses benefit from the use of conveyor belts. These systems play a vital role in handling a wide range of heavy-duty materials and must be performing properly, at all-times. Failure to operate as normal can cause a dramatic lull in production. In-order to assure a conveyor belt system is reliable and performing optimally, its splices must be high-quality. All splices will deteriorate over time and many system failures can be traced to improper splicing. This is why conveyor splicing is so important. So, what is conveyor belt splicing exactly? Read on to learn the basics.

What is Conveyor Belt Splicing?

Conveyor belt splicing is the process of joining two trimmed ends of a conveyor belt to assure belt performance and longevity. This process is either a chemical or mechanical procedure. It is usually performed as part of an installation, maintenance up-keep, or during a repair.

Mechanical Vs. Chemical Splicing:

Mechanical Splicing: This conveyor belt splicing method utilizes a mechanical fastener system to make reliable joints. Mechanical fasteners can be installed quickly using a modified installation tool with an electric or air power source. The ACT Group offers a system called Super-Screw®. This is a flexible, rubber splice developed by Minet Lacing Technologies that screws directly onto the belt. The Super-Screw® uses specifically designed self-drilling, self-tapping screws that preserve the belt’s integrity by spreading the carcass threads without cutting them. This technology allows the Super-Screw® to be installed regardless of the accessibility to the conveyor belt or weather conditions, while significantly reducing downtime.

Simple and practical, the Super-Screw® is also available in different qualities of rubber (MHSA, Grade 1 abrasion-resistant, Stainless Steel, HOT, Friction, or Bare Back).

Chemical Splicing: This is an involved procedure referred to as vulcanization. It requires a specific temperature, compression, special tools, an experienced installer, and a controlled environment. The ACT Group has a team that is well-versed in vulcanization and is prepared to perform the meticulous procedure flawlessly.

The ACT Group has the necessary knowledge and expertise to determine which splicing method is right for your conveyor belt system. Splicing is a complex process that requires a skilled service provider. Rest assured that The ACT Group will expertly repair your belt. Contact us today for a free quote!
